Question and answer
Can waste ink absorbers be washed and reused?
The waste ink sponge is meant to be disposable. If a new waste ink sponge is available, it's best to replace it with a fresh one. If a new sponge isn't available, you may attempt to clean it, but its ink absorption capacity will be reduced compared to a new sponge. When cleaning the waste ink sponge, follow these steps.
- Soak the ink absorber with water. When the water becomes cloudy, replace the water with a new one. Repeat soaking until it feels clean enough.
- Do not compress the ink sponge during cleaning. Avoid flattening the sponge by avoiding pressure, as it will eliminate the internal air pocket, causing a decrease in ink absorption capacity. Clean the sponge by immersing it in a cleaning solution without applying pressure. This will maintain the air pocket and ensure effective ink collection.
- After soaking, air out the ink sponge or allow it to dry completely. Ensure that the sponge is free of moisture before reinserting it.
After the printer is reassembled, the next step is to reset the waste ink absorber counter.
