Resetting Canon Pixma MX870, MX876 Error: Waste Ink Absorber is Full [5B00] [5B01]
Before resetting, the printer must be in Service Mode.
Step 1 - Enter Service Mode
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the STOP button.
- While holding the STOP button, press and hold the ON button (do not release both buttons).
- Release the STOP button when the Power LED lights in green while holding the ON button.
- While still holding the ON button, press the STOP button five times (*1) and then release both the STOP and ON button.
(*1) To bypass scanner error detection and start the machine in Service Mode, press the STOP button six times.
Note:
- The Alarm and Power LEDs will alternate lighting with each press of the STOP button. The Alarm LED will light in orange and the Power LED will light in green. When the Power LED lights in green, the machine is ready for Service Mode operation.
- If the Power LED does not light in green, the printer will not enter Service Mode. Turn off the printer and repeat the Service Mode operation procedures.
Step 2 - Reset Printer
6) Use Canon Service Tool v.1074 to reset the error Ink Absorber Almost Full (free, no virus, supported by Linux, Macintosh, Windows).
- Download Canon Service Tool V.1074 Full Version
- Extract the file and open Service Tool. If Service Tool fails to open, unplug the USB cable, open Service Tool, and then reconnect the USB cable.
- Load A4 or Letter paper.
- For reference purposes, click EEPROM information print before resetting (1).
- Clear the Ink Counter by clicking MAIN (2) and waiting for the printer to finish printing D=000.0, indicating that the Waste Ink Amount has been reset to zero.
- Select the destination region: ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA (3) and then click SET (4).
- Click EEPROM information print again after resetting (1) and compare it to the information before resetting to verify that the Waste Ink Amount value (D) has been reset.
- If the reset was successful, close Service Tool.
- Turn off the printer (wait 10 seconds).
- Turn on the printer and it will be ready to use.
