Operator Call Errors
  • Error: The ink absorber becomes almost full.
  • Error code: Japan: [1700], Others: [1701]

Service Call Errors
  • Cycles of blinking in orange and green: 7 times
  • Error: Waste ink absorber full
  • Error code: Japan: [5B00], Others: [5B01]
  • Conditions: The waste ink absorber becomes full.
Solution: Reset the printer
To reset the Canon Pixma MP230, MP235, MP236, MP237 printer when encountering an error with the Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01], follow these steps:

Step 1: Enter Service Mode
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the STOP/RESET button.
  • Press and hold the ON button, and do not release either button.
  • Release the STOP/RESET button, but keep holding the ON button.
  • While holding the ON button, press and release the STOP/RESET button four times, then press and hold the STOP/RESET button and release both buttons together.
Note: When the Power LED lights up in green, it indicates that the printer has entered the Service Mode. If the Power LED does not turn green, repeat the steps.
Step 2: Reset Error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]
  1. Download the Canon Service Tool v.3400.
  2. Extract the file and open the Service Tool. If it cannot be opened, unplug the USB cable, open the Service Tool, and then reconnect the USB cable.
  3. Load paper of size A4 or Letter.
  4. For reference purposes, click the EEPROM information print button before resetting.
  5. Select MAIN (2) and click SET (3) to clear the Ink Counter. The counter value will be automatically printed after being reset.
  6. Choose the destination region (4) from ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, or USA, and then click SET (5).
  7. Click the EEPROM information print button again after resetting.
  8. Compare the EEPROM information before and after resetting.
  9. If the process was successful, close the Service Tool.
  10. Turn off the printer, wait for 10 seconds, then turn it back on and it should be ready for use.
