Solution: Reset the printer
How to Reset Canon Pixma iP4800 Series Error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]
Before attempting a reset, the printer must be in Service Mode.
Here's how to enter Service Mode:
- Turn off the printer
- Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button
- Hold down the ON button, do not release both buttons
- Release the RESUME/CANCEL button, but keep holding the ON button
- While holding the ON button, press and release the RESUME/CANCEL button 5 times, then release both buttons
Note: If the Power LED turns green, the printer is in Service Mode and ready for operation. If it doesn't turn green, repeat the process.
To reset the error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01], there are three Canon Service Tools you can use: Canon Service Tool v.1081, Canon Service Tool v.2000, and Canon Service Tool v.1074. As v.1081 is not available, this tutorial will show you how to reset using v.2000.
Steps to Reset with Canon Service Tool v.2000:
- Enter Service Mode as outlined above
- Download and extract Service Tool v.2000
- If Service Tool doesn't open, unplug the USB cable and then open it. Re-connect the USB cable after opening
- Load A4 or Letter paper
- Print the EEPROM (1) information for reference
- Clear the Ink Counter and reset the Main ink absorber counter by selecting MAIN (2)
- Set your destination by selecting your region (ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA) and clicking SET (4)
- Print the EEPROM information again to compare the values of D (Waste ink amount)
- If everything goes well, close the Service Tool
- Turn off the printer, wait 10 seconds
- Turn on the printer and it is ready to use.
